Despite the fact that Alaska was warmer than Florida (low temps in the 20s and high temps in the 40s/50s), at least ten brave Catalina 22 skippers and their crew participated in the Sun n Fun Regatta the weekend of January 31 and February 1 in Palatka, Florida.
Congratulations to Rich Gailey and crew Patrick Dorsch and Will Faber who sailed "Wicklow Way" to first place in a three-race regatta. Ryan Jordan finished in second place sailing "Dubble Bubble". Mickey Richardson finished in third place sailing "Mischief".
In the Silver Fleet, congratulations to Dave and Daisy Lenit who took top honors sailing "Camper". Second place went to Richard Ashley sailing "Buz 151".
According to the Lake Monroe Sailing Association's Facebook page, "Saturday was a spicy day on the course. Three races - winds started medium with gusts into mid-teens. By the third race there was consistent wind of 20 with gusts up to mid 20’s. No races Sunday due to very cold weather and high wind conditions for the few boats that survived Saturday's conditions."
