The Lake Monroe Sailing Association was host to this year’s Region 3 Championship Regatta on Lake Monroe in Sanford, Florida the weekend of March 4 and 5.
We had 8 boats compete for the Region 3 Championship. Winds started around 13 to 14 knots for the first race with gusts into the upper teens and built to the high teens sustained with gusts into the upper 20's by the last race of the day. After the racing was done for the day, we all gathered around our boats and made necessary repairs while sharing stories over cool drinks to race the next day.
Good times were had later that night when we all gathered at The Sullivan Public House for food and cool beverages and then the younger sailors went out to sample the many treats that the Craft Brew Capital of Central Florida has to offer.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the racing on Sunday due to lack of wind which allowed the out-of-town boats to get an early start getting back home.

First place was “Screamin” with Keith Bennett, Doug Thome and Todd Gardner.
Second place was “Mercury Rising” with Brad Ruffe, Kurt Ketterer and Andrew Wilson.
Third place went to “Wicklow Way” with Rich Gailey, Patrick Dorsch and Allister James.
