Sailing Award |

Young Sailors between
the ages of 10 and 17 qualify to participate for the
Youth Sailor Of The Year. A parent or the
youth must be a National member.
Consideration will be
given to number of times sailing, number of races,
number of times skippering, cruises taken - and most
important, sportsmanship and spirit demonstrated.
Selection will be
made by on line voting by the membership.
Award will be
presented at the end of the sailing season in 2006.

We
encourage our members and fleets to submit pictures of young
sailors enjoying sailing a Catalina 22 during the year of
2006. Email photos and required information to
editor@catalina22.org and they will be posted on this
page. If you don't have an electronic file, send the
information and photo to 1310 W. Cedar St., Arlington, TX 76012 for scanning
and adding. If you want the photo returned include a self
addressed and stamped envelope. Please include the following
information with the photo.

Thomas Young and
his father racing EL FEO during the
January 2006 LCYC series. Thomas, LCYC's top
Optimist sailor, joined team FEO last November
during LCYC's Wurstfest Regatta. Thomas, who is 12
years old, has been a regular part of my local crew
ever since. last month I was not able to make the
club race due to a scheduling conflict. Thomas
offered to skipper the boat for me with a pick up
crew, his Dad and 6 year old sister Sobela (who
spent the day below deck napping).

Brief Sailing History:
The picture is of Gracie and Emma who sailed with
their grandfather "Bad" Bob Keim aboard the
"Pursuit" during the 2006 Region 4 Championship
Regatta.
This was Gracie's and Emma's first time on a sailboat. They took
the helm while their grandfather coached them in the
regatta. |
